ಲೋಕಲ್ ಟೈಮ್ ಹಾವಳಿ

Central College at Bangalore is having a sprawling campus. It has many independent blocks for each faculty like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology etc. For those who would be doing a specific major, their activities would largely confine to a single block. Many years back graduate courses also were being conducted in that college. Then the movements of students were more as all were minor subjects for them. It meant more movements from block to block. Some lectures would stretch beyond the schedule or students would reach the new lecture hall leisurely. One more woe was that clocks in different halls would not agree. We were calling this feature as “local time” Consequently the next lecture would get curtailed. time. One Principal solved this problem by creating a “Standard Time” for the entire college. By installing a network of electrical bell for all blocks, but controlled from a central location. I graduated from this College in 1955 and a witness to this feature

An intersting walk down memory lane. The clock synchronization problem is still a problem in some computer networks :-) and the solution to it is much the same too.
